Normal, Illinois by dadenko Normal, Illinois by dadenko
Another Trompe l'oeil painting in my series of 'faux photographs'. Done with acrylics on an 11 X 14 inch piece of Frisk CS-10 Illustration Board. I used brushes, my retouching airbrush, a toothbrush and sponges for this one.
Not too much to comment on here. I saw this water tower while driving back from my Dad's in Florida in, oddly enough, Normal, Illinois. I'd heard of the city beacause the small Airline I work for used to fly there. Never thought seeing the name on anything so mundane as a water tower would make such an impression on me.
I painted it just as it looked, the guard-rail all blurry in the foreground. I embellished the sky a tad for drama and the lighting was a bit darker in the reference photo I took with my Polaroid while blowing through town.

The original was purchased by a friend.

There is nothing much for me to say, because I think you know what I would say.

A) Thanks again
B) I'm crazily obsessed with getting things the way I want them, and stack on the reading glasses.

It's almost unbelievable mate... So amazingly well done!

The first trompe l'oeil painting I saw (not irl though) was by one of the old masters, Samuel van Hoogstraten... Maybe you know him? Anyway, since then I always keep my eyes open for those words, and imo your stuff are among the best I've seen... I love it!

Thanks Christian. I think I have a ways to go to be considered as good as some of the masters I've seen but I'm going to stay with it. I'll look for the work you mentioned as soon as I can. Take care bud. ddK
